I Might Be Ahead of the Game

I just started classes last week after completing my first semester ever of summer school. I'm enjoying the courses: Intermediate French, Politics of the Middle East, Comparative Politics, Public Policy, Citizenship, and Campaigns and Elections. Maybe what makes them so enjoyable is my ignorance or lack of familiarity coupled with the immediate relevance and timeliness of the subject matter. I've kept up with my reading and managed to watch the Democratic National Convention (okay I tivoed it). I even already checked out books from the library to start research for a report due in December. Granted this is only the second week of classes, but I think I might actually be ahead of the game this time...

Life Group

Jay and Julie's Life Group from Momentum

Nervous!

I am about to get the Implanon that has been in my arm since February
out! I am nervous!

He's just.. 2!

It just dawned on me this morning that Tristan is 2 1/2 years old as of August 2nd. I never really believed people when they said "terrible 2's" but i think i am finally starting to get it. Not that Tristan is a bad kid by any means, but he is.. well.. 2! We have had a few battles lately that made me realize we actually have to start parenting. It is kind of strange because really up until recently we were able to play with Tristan and never really had to discipline him much. But lately, it seems we have a battle with everything. Especially getting him to eat anything but grapes and frozen go gurts. I can't tell you how many times we have had to force him to take even one bite only to spit it out right after! What is the deal, he used to be such a good eater!?(Then there is Ry who is literally a human garbage disposal and will eat anything and everything and always seems hungry!) Last night was just one of those days. I got home from work at 6pm and Jay had a basketball game at 7pm so i was busy trying to make salsa and enchiladas for our life group meeting tomorrow night before he left. Tristan was in one of his moods and wouldn't eat the mac and cheese placed before him, and i decided to "choose my battle" and just feed him grapes and trix. By the time Jay came back around 8pm the house was a disaster with toys all over, juice spilled on the floor, Rylie with a dirty diaper (seriously, it was nasty..!) and food all over the kitchen from me cooking. Now, you have to understand that bedtime at the Cruz house, for Rylie at least is 8pm... seriously, at 8:01pm our kids are in full on meltdown mode. Just like every night Jay and I asked Tristan to put his toys away.. "Clean up, Clean up.. everybody Clean up." He refused, which is odd because he usually never complains. So, Jay gets down to help, then i get down to help. Still nothing. At this point Tristan is crying hysterically and yelling NO. We ask, "do you want to go to bed?" More crying. It gets even worse. Meanwhile Rylie starts crying because she is tired and sees her bottle and just wants to go to bed. It was terrible. Needless to say, we went upstairs and put Rylie down and Jay brought Tristan into his room. Not 5 seconds later the crying stops and i hear Jay asking him "who's that? and who's that?" They were looking at a collage of pictures we have up in T's room. Finally he was calm. Poor kid, he cried so hard he was doing those deep breaths when he tried to talk, you know.. the ones that kind of sound like hiccups that indicate you were really crying. Jay read him his bible stories (well nowadays it is more like Tristan pointing at everything on the page and telling you what it is, but whatever) and he went to sleep. Jay and I left his room, and i looked and him and said, "what was that all about!? So, maybe now i understand why they call it Terrible Two's, but most of the time he's not all that terrible!

Update

I wanted to write a quick update to let you all know Ry is doing much better. She woke up Saturday like her normal self and didn't have any of the symptoms she went to bed with Friday night. Jay and I spent most of the weekend at home keeping a close eye on Ry Ry and watching
the Olympics. Her pediatrician said it was important that she doesn't have any more serious falls the next few weeks and that she likely had a concussion from falling and hitting the same place. Anyway, thanks for all the calls and prayers!!

What a Night!

Rylie and I are back from the ER. What a night! Around 5:00pm this evening our new daycare lady called me and said Rylie fell and hit her head in the same spot as she had a few weeks ago. The thing that concerned her is that she could not walk and would just fall over when she tried, and her eyes were very sunken like she was all drugged up. I immediately called her pediatrician who told me to take her to the ER immediately. During that time Christa called the paramedics and when they checked her out they (and Jay, who arrived before me) decided it would be best to take her via ambulance. She threw up a few times at the hospital, (all of these are signs of concussion, vomiting, dizziness, and tiredness) and by that time Jay and I were really starting to freak out. So, the doctor came in and checked her out and ordered a CT to make sure nothing was going on internally. Man, that was terrible. Pure torture. No parent should have to do that, but i am glad we did to rule everything out. Her CT came back clear and we were able to come home. Right before we left our sweet Pastor and his family came by to check on us. What a blessing that was for us.. more than words. Rylie is tired (or whomped as my mom would say) and rightly so. She is now asleep in bed but i assure you we will be checking on her all throughout the night!

Right when i found out about all of this i called one of the guys in leadership at church to put Ry on a prayer list. He was the only number i had. After all was said and done i asked Jay if i jumped the gun in calling people to pray. He said "Julie, that may be why Rylie is better!" Wow did that put it in perspective. He is right and i thank you all sooooo much for your prayers!

I will keep you updated. We will probably be home for the next few days and i may even take Ry to our pediatrician to make sure all is well.

Pray!!

Please pray for Rylie. She just fell again at daycare and can't walk
without falling. The ambulance is there now and we have to take her to the ER.

She may have a concussion.

Future Olympian

I showed Tristan how to walk across the skinny benches at the park. He decided he wanted to try the balance beam...

I think he deserves a perfect 10 =).

Happy Anniversary!!

Happy 5 year Anniversary, Babe!! I can't wait to see what the next 5 years bring.. it just keeps getting better! I love you and can't wait to spend the weekend with you!

Grandma!

After missing every standby flight on Thursday we thought Grandma wasn't going to make it!! Luckily, she found a good last minute one way ticket.. Now that is love and dedication! She came all the way out here to help us watch the kids while Jay and I go on a little anniverary getaway! She watched the kids yesterday while we were at work and i came home to chalk on the driveway, and golf balls in a bucket. Yep, grandma brought toys.. my kids are going to be spoiled this week!! It is good to have you, Mom... thanks so much for coming out!!
