33.5 weeks.. and strict bedrest!

I will admit. I am at the point in my pregnancy where i am just DONE. I feel so stretched and tired all of the time. I have found it to be very difficult to actually do anything productive with Tristan and Rylie throughout the day which in turn totally stresses me out. I know they are kids, and young, and will likely not remember this time. But i feel like they are getting the short end of the stick and it is really hard for me. When i became a Stay at Home Mom last June i had visions of all the fun things we would do. All of the educational activities i would have with them.. how we would have a schedule and it would be the best time of my life. Well, that all changed when i got pregnant, with twins. It seems like almost from Day 1 i have been tired and the schedule i tried so hard to create started to become non existent. Now, in my third trimester, the first thing my kids ask to do in the morning is to eat cereal and to watch a movie. Yes, my kids are watching a lot of movies these days.. judge away! It is the only thing i can do to keep them entertained while i rest. Anyway, i had my usual doctor appointments this week. I was expecting everything to be normal. The last few weeks and months have really been so normal. My pregnancy, though difficult no doubt, had really been uneventful. Last Monday i went in for my Non Stress Test. It had been scheduled for 11:00am but when i called that morning to see how busy they were they said i had to come in later. So, i went in at 7:00pm instead. Almost immediately i was having pretty strong contractions. I really thought nothing of it at first. I had been "crampy" at night for weeks. They got the babies on the monitor and their heartbeats were great, and they were moving all around. The nurse decided to move the thing that measured my contractions as it was apparently not in the right place, and almost instantly these big, long contractions started showing up on the monitor. They gave me water to drink, but that didn't really help. They were getting pretty intense. I had to stop and concentrate through them while i was watching American Idol. Anyway, the nurse called my OB and he said to give me a shot to stop the contractions and if that didn't work i could be in active labor. Yikes. So, i got the shot and within about 15 minutes my contractions had really slowed down and i could hardly feel them.. so, i was discharged and sent home. I saw my doctor the next day. All he told me was that in a twin pregnancy it was very normal to start having contractions and that he wasn't that worried about it. Ummm, ok. Fast forward to yesterday. I had my second NST scheduled at the hospital. I went in, and originally Katelyn was sleeping so they were worried about that. Apparently her heart rate was too low. Thens he woke up and started moving and they were no longer worried about her. By this time the nurse had taken my blood pressure 2 times. Both times it was high. I can't remember the exact number, but it was something like 157/95. She kept saying she would give me some time to relax and then recheck, but each time she did it was still high. This concerned her. So, she called my doctor and after about an hour of being monitored she said i was free to go home. However, she told me my doctor was prescribing Strict Bedrest. She asked if i knew what that was, and though i had an ideal she explained anyway. She said i was to be lying down with my feet up all day and night long. That i would only be allowed to get up to use the bathroom, or take a short shower. She prefered that i did not take a shower every day. I could also go to my doctor appointments but that was it. I wasn't expecting this. I knew it could happen of course, and being almost 34 weeks i was lucky to have made it this far without having to be on bedrest.. but it was still a shocker. Luckily, my mom is coming out here in a few days to help me with the kids. God bless her! I am not sure she understands what she is really in for, but i appreciate the help so much. My husband has been so great too. He has been making all my meals and bringing them in to the room for me to eat, all on top of cleaning the house and taking care of the kids. Luckily, he is off 3 days a week so that is a big help. Bedrest seems like a dream come true to some people, and admittedly it did to me a bit too. I will actually get to rest before the twins come. But, it is hard for me. I feel... lazy. I want to be able to get up and to help with things around the house. To do the dishes and play with the kids and do the laundry. But, i am thankful that i have help and I can rest. Anyway, if you made it through this entire post good for you! Yikes, it is a long one! I have my last growth scan on Monday so i will let you all know how big the twins are measuring and if there is anything else to report!

32 week update

I had my doctor appointments today. First was the specialist where they said my cervix is closed and looks good. I then went to my regular OB where my blood pressure was a bit high, but not terrible. He told me he wants to start seeing me every week and also wants me to go to the hospital to do Non Stress Tests TWICE a week! Yikes!!! That is a lot of appointments. I have never had a NST so i am not really sure what to expect, my first one is tomorrow. The hard part is you can't take kids to these appointments so it seems like I am always at doctor appointments when Jay has days off!! It is hard, but what we gotta do! I am measuring 40 weeks and feeling very large. My feet are gigantic and swollen all day now. My doctor wants me to wear compression stockings.. FUN! Anyway, my C Section is scheduled for May 25th, that will be 38 weeks. I doubt (Please, God!!) that i will make it that far, but who knows?! Anyway, Here is my 32 week picture.. :)

30 weeks update!

I am happy to say i have made it to 30 weeks, and I am still not on any kind of bedrest. Still trying to take it easy, but that becomes harder and harder as we are trying to prepare for these little ones to arrive! Jay and I rearranged our room yesterday to accomodate the babies. I did all of the baby laundry and set up their dresser, and we attached the Co Sleeper my cousin bought for us to my bed. We were going to put a crib in also, but think we will wait until we absolutely have to have it! It would be quite tight with it in there! The babies are doing well, and growing a ton. I had a growth ultrasound on Monday and they were each weighing 3 pounds, 7 ounces. Both looked great and were moving and kicking all around. Katelyn has moved back to a head down position which explains all the crazy movements the last few days. I also saw my regular OB. He changed my C Section date to 38 weeks. This would be the end of May. I still think they will arrive the beginning of May, but i would love to make it to 38 weeks.. guess we will see. I am feeling pretty good. It is getting increasingly more difficult to sleep at night, and just moving from one side to the other is so hard! I guess this is God's way of preparing me for the sleepless nights i will have ahead. I am tired, but making it through. Jay is getting his wisdom teeth pulled this Friday so the kids are going to spend the night on Friday with their Oma and most of Saturday so i can take care of Jay. It is my turn to return the favor for him. He has spent weeks taking care of me.. it is my turn. I am looking forward to it, even if he will be all out of it!! :)

28 week update and Good News!

I am 28 weeks along now. Had a follow up doctor appointment today since that test came back positive last week. They did the usual measurements where they found i am measuring 37 weeks.. yes.. seriously. SO many people say i don't look like i am carrying twins, like i am small or something. So, i am putting a few pictures in here to prove just how large i have become! They also repeated the fFN test and this time.. it came back negative! Maybe all the rest i did this past week really did help! They also scheduled my C Section for June 2nd. Seriously, that is 39 weeks and i will be straight up lucky to make it that far.. but who the heck knows!?? I am feeling rather huge, and out of breath. But the doctor says that is normal with a twin pregnancy because the lungs are pushed up so far. Go figure. Other than that i am feeling pretty good, gained 33 pounds so far and wondering how much more there will be. Here are a few belly pics from this week. Enjoy me in all my pregnant glory!

NOT the news i was expecting!

I am 27 weeks pregnant. This past Monday i went to the my normal OB appointment. When i was there they said they were going to do a fFN test. It is called Fetal Fibronectin. Basically, it will check to see if you could go into preterm labor within the next 2 weeks. I was fully expecting for the test to be negative as I am still not that far along, even for twins. So, imagine my suprise when i got a call later that afternoon saying the test came back positive. What a bummer. That means the baby shower that was planned for me for next Saturday had to be canceled and I was on modified bed rest. This does NOT mean that i WILL go into labor in the next two weeks, but it does mean that i need to be really careful not to do certain things and take it easy. I guess the chances are 30% that i could go into preterm labor. Luckily, my doctor is taking a lot of precautions and will be monitoring me very closely. If i do go into labor, they should be able to stop it. So, lots of rest for me. Stacia and I got our hair done today. I am so excited to be a blonde again!! We spent 5 hours at the salon, but don't worry.. i was sitting the whole time. :) Anyway, please pray these babies stay put for at least another 7 weeks!!!
